October 2025: Few things capture the spirit of adventure like a week of hunting in Africa. This trip had it all — long stalks, incredible wildlife, expert trackers, and the kind of moments that stay with you for life.
Day 1 – The Adventure Begins
The first day delivered a classic safari welcome. We saw elephants, kudu, baboons, buffalo, eland, warthogs, sable, wildebeest, hippo, Steinbeck, and duikers — a wildlife parade across the bush. Two good stalks on an old eland bull brought us close, but we just couldn't close the deal. We also passed up a broken-horned buffalo — saving the best for later.
Day 2 – The Buffalo Chase
Buffalo hunting tested both patience and endurance. Six stalks on a herd of 100–150 yielded no clear shots — one even turned into a full-on snafu. That afternoon, we tracked for over eight kilometers, eventually turning up an eland stalk. No shot presented, but watching the trackers work was a masterclass in bushcraft.
Day 3 – A Day of Action
Things heated up quickly. We watched two sable bulls fight near a waterhole before taking two solid shots at 300 and 250 yards. Later, a blue wildebeest stepped into range and dropped cleanly at 150 yards. To finish the day, a well-executed plan for buffalo came together perfectly — one of those moments every hunter dreams of.
Day 4 – Hyena Bait and Border Bulls
The morning was spent recovering Jeff’s elephant, a major effort in itself. Afterward, we set three bait sites for hyenas. Along the way, we spotted a massive kudu bull near the border — but it was just out of our hunting area. Still, sights like that remind you how wild and untamed this land remains.
Day 5 – Miles and Memories
Three tracking hikes, totaling 10.5 miles, pushed everyone’s limits. On the final stalk, we caught up to a large herd of eland — bulls everywhere and shots presented. Later, while checking the elephant bait site, we discovered it had been found by buzzards and a hyena. On the way back, we encountered a huge male lion and lioness guarding a kudu kill — an unforgettable encounter, complete with incredible photos and video.
Day 6 – Eland Earned
Back on eland tracks the next morning, we covered another five miles before spotting a bull. The stalk turned into a three-mile pursuit that ended with a perfect 200-yard shot. Hard work and patience paid off — we earned that bull. On the return, we saw several kudu bulls resting under tall trees. A short reposition and another precise 150-yard shot made for a spectacular finish to the day.
Day 7 – The Hyena Finale
Rain slowed things down early, but the evening hunt brought one last rush. Using a thermal scope and hyena calls, we called in a big old male within ten minutes. The .308 performed perfectly, sealing the hunt with one final “wow” moment under the African night sky.
